Half-Life
Half-Life was Valve Software's first game and was released in 1998. It is a first person shooter that follows scientist Gordon Freeman through the Black Mesa Research Facility.
Development began in 1996 with Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington licensing id Tech 1 from id Software. The numerous improvements that were made to id Tech 1 resulted in the Goldsource engine.
Half-Life (Dreamcast)
A Dreamcast port of Half-Life was developed by Gearbox Software but never released. The Dreamcast port included the new expansion Half-Life: Blue Shift which was eventually released for PC.
A number of different builds have been leaked and a Prima strategy guide was printed and is readily available. In July 2025 a game box was offered for sale on eBay for $30,000 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/356167155945).
